Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe urged the government to pursue a trillion-dollar economy by 2055 and criticized their failure to advance the Renewable Energy Project in Mannar with Indian conglomerate Adani. He emphasized the global power shift towards Asia and the potential benefits for Sri Lanka.
Wickremesinghe stressed the need for tenfold economic growth in 30 years, highlighting India’s similar goal and the feasibility of achieving it. He advocated for integrating and cooperating with the Indian economy, citing his previous efforts to explore economic cooperation avenues, including renewable energy.
He questioned the NPP Government’s renegotiation of the Adani project, which had already been agreed upon. Regarding the IMF program, Wickremesinghe emphasized its necessity for successful debt restructuring and urged the government to continue his policies, warning of further economic difficulties if his program is not completed.
