A former cabinet minister has been summoned by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for questioning next Monday (31) regarding the Weligama W15 shooting incident.
The CID’s move comes amidst ongoing investigations into the incident, which has already led to the arrest of several individuals, including former Police Chief Deshabandu Tennakoon. While other suspects have been granted bail, Tennakoon remains in custody.
Police sources indicate that the former minister is being questioned due to suspicions that he may know about the incident.
Meanwhile, the number of charges against Tennakoon has been reduced from 27 to 23. The initial motion containing 27 charges, signed by 115 MPs, was submitted to the Speaker. However, the supplementary motion officially published by Parliament contains only 23 charges, as some charges were repeated in different forms within the original motion.
